Fun Memory: Eric and Leslie’s Wedding Day

Something took place on December 10th, 1994 that shocked a sin-saturated American culture. I married Leslie. The fact that we got married wasn’t the shocker. Rather, it was how we got married. We deeply integrated our family in the ceremony and we honored them as our dearest and closet friends. We made the ceremony entirely about the revelation of Jesus Christ and His Bride. And we demonstrated for all to see, that God can take two lives, marred by relational failure in the past, and showcase, in and through them in the present, a staggering picture of purity by having their very first kiss together be on their wedding day. No one knew what to say when they witnessed this. Some just stared in awe. Some were actually upset with us. Others were moved to tears and their lives were actually and practically altered. Most everyone was impacted at some level...

Fun Romance Question: Which romantic gesture is most effective?

Statistically speaking, the odds of you guessing correctly the answer Leslie gives to this question in her short little Q&A video is probably something like 1 in 1000. But, go ahead, give it a guess and see if you are right. The truthfulness of her answer has proven quite a powerful and poignant reality in our 23 years of marriage together...

Fun Romance Question: Does marriage get better or worse after the honeymoon?

Measure most earthly marriages and the sparkle of intimacy, and you’ll find that the motivation towards romantic expression one unto the other, and the passion for loving physical affection begins to fade somewhere right around week three of the marriage...

Fun Memory: My Proposal to Leslie

It has been exactly 8,690 days since God proved to me, in no uncertain terms, that He is a big fan of love and romance. I must admit I was a bit dubious at first, pondering the notion of God “writing my love story.” After all, God is … well … holy and pure. And, growing up in the American culture, love and romance is anything but holy and pure. So, what would it be like if God controlled this area of my life? What would happen to me, to my love life, if it unfolded as God would think best?

Fun Romance Question: How much does common attraction play into a great marriage?

My mother was one of the classic maternal match-makers. And when I was twenty, my mom found a young woman for me that she thought was perfect wife-material. And, in all honesty, she really was a great girl. But, I just wasn’t attracted to her … ahem … in that way. If my mom hadn’t pressed the issue, I would have never considered the matter. But, since my mom kept asking me why I wasn’t pursuing "Carmen" for a relationship, it forced me to evaluate this odd issue of human attraction...

Fun Memory: Hanging out with Leslie’s Family

If we were compiling a list of the most unromantic things, there are some very predictable things that make the list. For instance, dirty clothes tossed on the floor. Heavy metal music. Oh, and we can’t forget to add in flu symptoms, sticky caps on the cough syrup bottle, and kale chips (maybe that is just me). However, there is one particular item that most of us fail to put on the list, because it is so obvious that we miss it. It’s our family members (you know, mom, dad, brother Billy, and sister Shirley)...

Fun Romance Question: What is the single biggest romantic blunder?

In our younger days, Leslie and I used to travel the world and speak on the topic of romance and relationships. We never struggled to draw a crowd. It’s strange, but, if you speak on the topic of prayer and fasting your crowd will always be sparse. But, if you speak on this particular topic, people just come out of the woodwork to listen in. It was not surprising to have thousands of young adults sitting with rapt attention in our average audience, and sometimes it was tens of thousands. It’s strange, but every one of us is intrigued by this topic...

Fun Romance Question: What are the odds that someone will succeed at romance?

Have you ever wondered what makes a relationship truly succeed? Even among Christians, in today’s world it can be rare to find examples of thriving marriages that stand the test of time. If you don’t want to become one of the dismal statistics when it comes to romance, there are a few key spiritual truths you must adopt...

Fun Memory: Falling in Love with Leslie Around the Piano

My parents gave Leslie and I an extremely unique wedding gift. They gave us their most prized piece of furniture – their baby-grand piano.

The first time Leslie ever came over to the house, she was sixteen years old. She walked through the front door and I pointed toward the baby-grand and said, “I want to hear you play.” ...

Fun Romance Question: What are the tell-tale signs that someone is called to singleness?

When someone brings up the topic of being “called to singleness” many singles want to run the opposite direction. (When I was single, I would always strategically skip over those passages from Paul about the blessing of remaining unmarried.) ...

Fun Memory: The First Time I Saw Leslie (Part 1 of 5)

The date was December 14th, 1991. I was two days from my twenty-first birthday, freshly home from the mission field, and in the guest room of the Ludy house praying. I was praying that God would lead my life, that He would take me by the hand and show me how to do this whole thing right. And, in keeping with the tradition I had set for myself a couple years prior, I prayed specifically for my wife-to-be. I had never met her. But, I wanted God to prepare this girl for me and prepare me for her. As I prayed that night, I saw something in my mind. I honestly don’t know what to call what I saw...

Leslie and Avy Remember the First Set Apart Conference!

The Ludy family is currently on vacation near San Diego, and thus, this video was filmed on Eric’s iPhone just outside our condo. We took a few moments away from our world of beach toys, sand castle building, sea lion watching and wave jumping for Leslie to fondly reminisce the very first Set Apart Conference back when she was 9 months pregnant with Avy (who is now our spunky eight-year-old)!...

Relentless

There is one particular part of this video that just grabs me by the scruff of the neck and yanks me up out of my comfort zone. It’s that part right near the end when the resounding, “Go!” thunders over and over again. Wow! It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to begin looking for a nice flat piece of ground to pitch my tent and call it good enough...

Fools for Christ

I’m one of those strange sort of people that actually really enjoys the “foolish, doltish, idiotic” flavoring to Christianity amidst this hipster world. When you don’t fight the fact that vigorous Christianity is always out-of-style, and that Truth-telling is always unfashionable – it really helps stick a triumphant giggle in your inner-man...

Two Churches

Ah, the memories associated with this newest Bravehearted Thots trilogy! Over a period of four months (from April – July 2015), our local church in Windsor, Colorado experienced a very real spiritual revival. And this particular 3-part video series is extracted out of the messages that served to underscore that profound stretch of time.

Eric Ludy Interviews Mr. Yummy Burrito Himself

We arrived in the studio to film this particular blog video and I noticed that Hudson had a blob of lunch on his shirt. Momma was on her way to the campus and she had a replacement shirt for him in the car, so all was going to be okay. But, it turned out the shirt that arrived was wrinkled and, strangest thing, the studio’s clothes steamer had gone missing...

Astonishing Triumph

Anyone who has gone through a semester on the Ellerslie campus knows the message inside this video, and they know it intimately. Historically known in the Church as “The Identification Doctrines,” this series of spiritual realities, which are unlocked by recognizing our position IN Christ by faith, are, inarguably, what I personally would consider the most powerful, most important, and most life-changing practical Truths any Christian could ever grasp...

The Victory of Faith

Many of us view faith sort of like our Ford pickup’s license plates. Every year it is necessary to invest a little into our vehicle’s plates in order to keep that baby on the road. We pay the renewal fee, stick the fresh stickers over the old ones, wipe the work off our hands in satisfaction, and call it good...
