When I married Eric Ludy I didn’t realize it at first, but I was marrying into some interesting genes. I guess Eric’s father, Winston, grew to be six foot tall by the fifth grade. That’s shockingly tall for an eleven-year-old.
Well, when our oldest son, Hudson, turned twelve this past December, he decided to take after Eric’s side of the family and grow crazy tall seemingly overnight. He grew more than a foot in three months, which began a multi-month debate over which of us was taller! I wasn’t exactly prepared to need to look up in order to give a motherly lecture to any of my kids until they were at least fifteen or sixteen, but alas, it seems that Hudson decided to break the growth-spurt rules! And now I must admit, he’s hanging out a fraction of an inch above me.
But on the positive side, it wasn’t just Hudson’s height that grew tremendously this year — his spiritual life also grew by leaps and bounds. He went from being a “good Christian kid” to a passionate follower of Jesus Christ. Why? A big part of it had to do with the summer he spent at Ellerslie. The truths he learned during our twelve-week discipleship program were life-changing. The messages caused him to fall in love with God’s Word, develop a vibrant relationship with Christ, and gain a heart for the lost. Because Hudson has been transformed, it has impacted our entire family. His example of living a Christ-centered life is setting the stage for his younger siblings to gain the same passion for the things of God.
When families grow together spiritually, the world can be turned upside down. If your family needs a spiritual boost, just think — you can bring the same truths that changed Hudson’s life into your home and family life! Join us for our new Bravehearted Personal Discipleship family program — bring your entire family to the Ellerslie campus for a week of training and then experience 90 days of ongoing training and mentoring in your own home. If you are looking for practical ways to disciple your children, this will give you the tools you need to take your family from spiritually mediocre to spiritually thriving!
