Is the Holy Spirit being neglected in the Church today?

When it comes to the Holy Spirit, many Christians tend to fall into one of two camps: either over-emphasize the Holy Spirit or ignore Him altogether. Here are Eric’s thoughts on the topic.

Eric Ludy Discusses Heaven

I’ve always loved the topic of Heaven.  I used to sit around when I was young and dream about what it would be like to be with Him there.  And, I guess, you could say that I still kind of do that...

The Crazy Business of Cross Swapping

No matter where you go on this earth, if you choose to grow a flower garden you will, undoubtedly, battle with weeds. The same is true with growing the Christian life. Along with the amazing Life you receive in Christ come the trials that strangely accompany that amazing Life. I guess it’s just a principle of both soil and souls in a fallen world...

Why Do Purity Commitments Fail?

Both Leslie and I grew up in Christian youth groups at the height of the abstinence movement. During our young adult years, we were given many reasons for why we should choose purity, such as, “You’ll have a better marriage someday” or “You’ll avoid STD’s and teen pregnancy” or “You’ll have more respect for yourself” or “Abstinence is cool, come join all the others who have chosen to live this way!”...

Ellerslie Students Speak Up

Many times over the years we have put graduates from our discipleship training program behind a camera and asked them fun and interesting questions. As a result, we have a lot of great interview footage that we have collected over the years, but, often, this footage just sits on our servers taking up space. So, the other day, I commissioned Josh Kinabrew (our film director) to make use of some of this footage and grab a few of these interviews so that we can throw them out to you via this blog. And, who knows, if you are alumni, maybe you will be in this video compilation. Wouldn’t that be fun?...

We are giving away 3 full-ride scholarships . . . Again!

A few months back we gave away 3 full-ride scholarships for our 5-week summer training and another 3 full-ride scholarships for our 5-week Advanced training program. Not only was it fun to give these scholarships away, but the benefit that we received in having these exuberant scholarship recipients on campus for those 5-weeks was more than worth it. What a great time we had!...

Saying Goodbye Stinks

I think it would be accurate to say that I say goodbye for a living. Students come to Ellerslie and, well, they go. As a staff, we decided early on, that we weren’t going to allow the goodbyes that lie just around the corner to hinder us from fully loving these students while they are here in Windsor. But such a decision comes with a definite emotional cost. For love is a two-sided coin. To the degree you love, you also experience that same degree of pain when the goodbyes come...

Eric Ludy Talks About Holy Kisses

I’ve joked about the holy kiss many times with my students and my congregation when I talk about how we Bible-believers can believe Scripture to be 100% truth and still not have a clue how to obey it at times. After all, in the New Testament we have five clear commands to greet our fellow believers with a holy kiss. What do we do with these commands?...

The Measurement of Humility

God is humble. Just think about that statement. God – is – humble. Such a notion is almost impossible to swallow. After all, if we were to build ourselves the ultimate all-powerful god from scratch, our god would certainly be proud. And that is because, in our native unregenerate state, we ourselves are proud. And we think God is like us, or, at least, should be like us. But, He is not like us. And strangely, He isn’t proud. He is humble...
