Most Christians today live disillusioned, frustrated, and fruitless. We know we are called to something more — a life of triumph and victory, a life overflowing with joy and boldness, a life where we have ready answers for the hope within us, a life that is focused outward to serve the downtrodden and share the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world around us — yet while we know such a life is possible, many of us are unsure how to get it. Throughout Christian history, those who went before guided the next generation in the narrow way of the Cross. But Christianity has lost something — we’ve lost the heroic example of godly men and women who demonstrate how to practically live a Christian life that actually works. It’s not through gimmicks or new methods, it’s a return to historic-biblical Christianity that is firmly planted upon the Word of God and focused upon Christ Jesus.
Bravehearted Christian is a site designed with the spiritually hungry heart in mind. Through articles that capture the essence of Cross-living, films that portray the rugged nature of full-givenness to Jesus Christ, and podcasts that enunciate the grandeur of following the Suffering Savior, it is our hope that the rich heritage of manful Christianity would once more impact this lost and dying world for the glory of our Lord.
Our desire on this site isn’t to be novel, culturally-sensitive, or hip, but rather, we are seeking, by the means of bold straightforward Christ-centered communication, to simply encourage the saints of God that yearn for the ancient Lion’s roar in their Christian living. Bravehearted Christian was built to hold up tired arms, support weakened knees, and to inject a manly war cry into the hearts and minds of believers around the world.
We hope that before you leave this website that you will have found something of eternal value that will build you up in the most holy faith.
Back in 1993 a vision was laid out on paper for this “return of the ancient growl.” A young twenty-two year old named Eric Ludy was agonizing over his own powerlessness to live out the high calling of the Christian life. Through many tears, and many months of staring squarely at the Scriptures and contrasting it with his own life, and in finding the enabling grace that can only found in a surrendered relationship with Jesus Christ, Eric Ludy took up pen and applied it to paper and began to express the deep burden that was sitting upon his soul. And it was in this “essay” that he articulated the formation of a band of believers that would be built by the Holy Spirit of God to take the grand and timeless message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations with bravehearted moxie.
This essay was simply known to him as Men of Honor. And after seventeen years of intensive prayer to see this vision formed, Ludy saw the first stage of fulfillment unfurl in the launch of Ellerslie Discipleship Training in 2009, and the first students arrived May of 2010 for the first Ellerslie semester. The interest for this training was huge, drawing passionate, serious-minded Christians from around the globe to Windsor, Colorado. This unique magnetic pull upon these fervent saints created a rallying point for like-minded men and women the world-over—men and women that all fervently asked God for the return of strength and majesty to the Church of Jesus Christ. Among these students were Christians that possessed unique artistic talents consecrated to Christ’s service and dedicated to the purposes of revealing His glory in this earth.
Over time these artistic ones began to more formally band together, working on projects together (i.e. our short films Intercession, The Gospel, and Depraved Indifference), and finding great synergy in serving as one unit towards a common goal. The enthusiasm and vision among them was electric, and, in late 2014, the first steps towards the formalization of an actual “team” began. At first it was simply known as “The Toolbelt,” but in early 2016, they formally banded together as a troupe under the banner of Bravehearted Media Group.
Some in this group (Eric Ludy, his wife Leslie Ludy, along with Annie Wesche, and Nathan Johnson) have worked together since 2004. While others have joined after their time studying during an Ellerslie semester. Steve Rosen, an acclaimed music producer, and Josh Kinabrew (the talent behind The Gospel short film) were both students in the very first Ellerslie semester. The formation of the rest of the team has happened slowly since the fall of 2010.
Though Bravehearted Christian is only one of the projects that the Bravehearted Media Group is currently working on, it is what they would refer to as their flagship project. It’s the one that binds everyone together, creates a common language, and declares the key central theme that gets them all out of bed in the morning.
The dozens of contributors responsible for putting this site together all have something in common. Yes, as would be guessed, they all boldly confess a love and devotion to Jesus Christ, but there is something more that identifies them — from the artistic designers, to the programmers, to the video editors, to the music producers — they all are moved with a singular vision. They all share a common ache to see the strength and majesty of Jesus Christ once again return to the Christian faith. They yearn to see Christianity once again function with power, victory, and world-altering fervor.
We did not hire an outside firm of professionals to build this site. It was built in-house by men and women that care deeply about every word inside it. It was crafted by Christians that prayed as they worked, begged God for that this site would somehow impact you, and considered their work on this site a sacred love offering to their Lord.
It is our hope that as you traverse the digital pages of this site, that you would receive it as a specially-built gift for your spiritual life and that you would encounter that power and strength that we have asked God, time and again, to grant you in and through these expressions of Truth.
Bravehearted Christian is a work of the Body of Christ for the Body of Christ. It was built to empower you to live a more noble existence, a stronger life, and to gain a more intimate understanding of the Savior of the World.
The Bravehearted Media Group is a powerhouse collection of artists, web developers, writers, designers, and communicators — who are all passionate about Jesus Christ and making Him known throughout the world.
The Bravehearted Media Group is continually active in creating content and resources to train and equip Christians in knowing the Word of God, how to communicate the Gospel, be world changers, and how to grow in daily intimacy with Jesus Christ. Some of their current projects include:

Legend has it that Eric leaps out of bed each morning with the same declaration: "I freshly surrender my life to You, Jesus!" And it is this foundational position that brings such strength, purity, honor, and courage to all that we do at Bravehearted Christian. A devoted husband, affectionate daddy, courageous preacher, true friend, and lover of life, Eric leads with humility and an unwavering stand for truth. Though he's a man we all greatly respect, he's also the first one to keep us laughing over his hilarious "embarrassing moments," and with his buoyant cheer, reminds us to always leap for joy in this Christian life. We've learned that having Eric as our chief visionary means we never run out of things to do around here, but it also means that each new project will be one to proclaim Jesus is Lord! As a bestselling author and speaker, we've seen that Eric truly lives out what he writes and speaks about – and we're full of appreciation for this great man of God.
I love ice cream runs with our 6 kiddos and family hikes in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Iced or hot chai
Bravehearted kids (just you wait!)
All day hike, no question!
A breakfast cafe that serves manly food!
A tie between hamburgers and spaghetti. (Emphatic no to sushi!)
Study or write – please don’t ask me to dance!
When nicknames where handed out around the media group table, "First Lady" was a unanimous vote for Leslie. Not only is she the "other half" and strong support to her husband Eric, our faithful leader and ministry president, but her life is a radiant testimony of godly leadership, feminine dignity, and joyful living. A momma to 6 beautiful, animated kiddos, Leslie is inspiring on the home front as well as at the office. She has the incredible ability to translate grand, global vision into the every-day practical steps that bring that vision to reality, and we all love her for reigning us in at our lively staff huddle meetings. Things don't usually get done without some touch of Leslie's organization, wisdom, or support. A bestselling author and speaker, Leslie's passion for Jesus and for set apart living is the foundation for all that she does, and we count it a tremendous blessing having her as an integral part of all we do here at Bravehearted Christian.
I love spending time with my six hilarious, quirky, energetic kiddos!
Ocean! (Even though I have always lived in CO and love the mountains, I would be very happy living by the sea!)
The Set Apart Girl Online Course for women!
An all day hike with the family, hands down.
Breakfast cafe sounds nice!
Reading Christian biographies
Music, pop-corn, and games with my kiddos…or an organizational project around the house!
If you were to step into our offices to be greeted with an enthusiastic, warm welcome or hear in the distance an unforgettable laugh – chances are they've both come from Nathan Johnson. This is the guy who keeps us all laughing while at the same time, never lets us forget the precious, profound realities of living the Christ-life. But don't let this warm-hearted, Jesus-centered guy fool you. He's also a world-class, get-work-done type and we simply couldn't function without his incredible organization and leadership. How he manages to keep so many plates spinning is still a marvel to us all. Nathan received a Masters of Divinity in 2008 and has nearly fifteen years of full-time "in the trenches" ministry experience — from inner city youth work and ministering to the homeless, to leading mission teams and teaching in-depth biblical studies ... We guess we'll keep him around.
I enjoy reading, writing, and playing disc golf. I love to laugh, listen to soundtrack music, drink sweet tea, and have a passion to mentor godly young men in the areas of masculinity, purity, biblical truth, victory and freedom over sin, and daily Christian living.
All of the above…so a lake or river in the mountains or the ocean with a distant mountain view.
There are so many exciting things in the project queue but I’m stoked about finishing my book and an online course on Saturation Bible Study.
Frisbee (ultimate or disc golf) AND board games!
Grilled salmon with a baked potato
I absolutely love all those options (except the dancing) – and to study, read, and write while traveling is even better!
Annie has been faithfully serving alongside of Eric and Leslie since the early 2000’s – and we could quickly rattle off about 2000 reasons that we are so grateful to have this woman of God as a part of our media group and our lives! When she moved to Colorado to nanny for Eric and Leslie’s first child, Hudson Jack Ludy, she wouldn’t have ever dreamed that she’d eventually become our Creative Director! Our websites, courses, magazines, and more reflect Annie’s amazing creativity, sense of style, design brilliance, and ultimately, God’s outshining faithfulness to equip her as our self-taught designer! Beyond her God-gifted abilities, Annie is passionate about advocating for vulnerable children, photo-journalism, and testifying of her God through story-telling and writing. If you were to cross paths with Annie “on-the-clock” at our ministry base, or “off-the-clock” hiking in the Rocky Mountains, you would meet the same steadfast soul – and you would quickly discover the warmth, love for Christ, and touch of humor that have so endeared her to us over the years!
I’ll spend any fair-weathered Saturday heading up to the mountains for a long hike, the company of a friend, crisp air, and to freshly take in the majesty of our God.
Exploring new product ideas for Set Apart Girl – like wall print collections.
The ocean. It’s always been my favorite place for drawing away with Jesus or storing up moments with my wise and wonderful parents.
Anything hot off the grill! Buffalo burgers, steak, salmon…
Travel — I love seeing places, meeting people, and photographing it all, but mostly, I love how new adventures press me to trust and know my Jesus more.
A crackling fireplace, baked apples with ice cream, and watching Amazing Grace. Or, if I’m home visiting my family – one seriously competitive game night.
Mandy was among the first semester of students at Ellerslie back in 2010, and even then we took note of her joyful attitude and constant spiritual passion. When she started working with Set Apart Girl in 2011, we quickly realized what a treasure she was, and we’ve counted it such a privilege to have her on our team! Over the past years, she’s worn many different hats – coordinating conferences and special events, keeping Set Apart Girl Magazine production on track, writing articles, contributing photography, handling communications, and organizing social media – just to name a few of the ways this versatile young woman gives strength to our team! Her contagious cheerfulness, willingness to tackle “hard” tasks, beautiful social grace, and amazing organizational abilities have made her truly indispensable. And here’s a fun piece of trivia – she loves pigs! Celebrating “National Pig and Pancake Day” with the Ludy kiddos has become an annual tradition – complete with pig-shaped pancakes and pink sprinkles! All in all, Mandy brings joy and grace to everything she invests herself into, and we are honored to serve alongside her!
I love quality time with my family, and any chance to be outside – whether hiking in the mountains, paddle-boarding on the lake, or even just a walk in the fresh air and sun!
OCEAN. I’d take the hot sun, smell of salt, sound of waves, and sand between my toes any day of the week!
Each new issue of Set Apart Girl Magazine – I love watching God lead the heart, content, and design of each issue!
An all-day hike … crowned with ice cream!
Grilled Maple-Garlic Salmon
Traipsing next-door to join my neighbor, Annie, in watching Amazing Grace – a favorite movie that always leaves me spiritually stirred and inspired! Or, a fun and productive late night of re-organizing closets, re-arranging furniture, and sprucing up home decor!
No matter how many design projects get thrown her way, this girl flies right through them with an unmatched diligence and excellence, which quickly earned her the affectionate nickname "Blitz." Jess came to us right when we were wanting to take our Set Apart Girl Magazine to print, and with her years of design knowledge and print publication experience, it's undeniable that this vibrant, peaceful soul was a direct answer to our prayers. Along with her stellar work ethic, Jess has a tremendous heart for people. Whether it is through spending meaningful time with family and friends, or ministering to women in prison, Jess has an incredible gift for loving and serving those around her. And if that isn't enough to make us love her, there's always her killer zucchini bread (with zucchini from her own garden), her adventurous spirit (which makes her a whole lot of fun), and those professional ballroom dancing skills (who knew!).
I appreciate the fellowship, fun and strength of spending time with friends anywhere outdoors!
I’d say mountains probably rank highest in my view.
Book cover designs! You’ll be so encouraged by the content of the classic books we hope to publish from authors such as John Bunyan and Andrew Murray.
I’d say an ice cream run is nearly always in season…especially after an all day hike.
For a long time I’ve been stricken with the little-known (i.e. completely fictitious) disease called “open space syndrome” in which open spaces must be filled with dancing.
It's the running joke in our office that Brandon can "do anything", but so far, that's pretty much been the case when it comes to his web-building genius. At first glance, Brandon is the strong, silent type – but it doesn't take long to see that this man is made up of a faithful devotion to Jesus, a dauntless willingness to learn, a readiness to serve in any capacity, and a surprisingly hearty laugh. He's about 99% sugar free, but occasionally we've caught him green-handed downing a matcha frappucino. We never knew someone could be so passionate about riding the "Ruby" rails or be so stoked about learning "Ember" — but this guy is, and it comes from a genuine passion to use his talents for the glory of Jesus Christ. Though his type of work is often "behind the scenes," this website and countless other projects would not exist without Brandon's whole-hearted investment.
I delight in abiding in God's word and sharing with others the Life found in the One it testifies of, Jesus Christ.
Bravehearted Christian 2.0
Ultimately Frisbee would be my usual choice.
Raised on the grapes and sunshine of California (seriously, he grew up on a vineyard), Josh is as hard-working and fun as they come. Always seeming to have a glint of humor in his eye, this guy brings life, creativity, and incredible skill to the media group table — from web developing and tech support, to film production and directing, Josh gets things done with true excellence. He is a solid man of faith and devotion to Christ, husband to his beautiful wife, Brooke, and daddy to two adorable little men, Josiah and David. (Work comes to a pause – for all of us – when this sweet crew arrives at the office!) When Josh joined our gang, we considered investing in a supply of superglue hoping to find a way to make sure he'd never leave. In all seriousness, we're all grateful to count Josh as a friend and a co-laborer in this work.
I love creating memories with my family.
Feature-length films… and reading that just got you fired up too!
You had me at smoked brisket.
Warm blankets, hot apple cider, and story-telling.
